Why is custom training more cost effective ?

Why Custom Training?

AlexanderHancock Associates is committed to training that produces measurable results and changes behavior in ways that immediately impact the business. Our experience shows that custom training has a far greater likelihood of accomplishing this. There are several reasons this is true:

  • the likelihood that participants will actually recall and use the training on the job is increased since the applications used in the training are real-life examples

  • your ability to influence the content, methods, issues, and outcomes to ensure high return on your investment

  • custom training is far more credible to participants because it uses language, culture and examples that are meaningful to participants

  • custom training is far more credible to participants because it uses language, culture and examples that are meaningful to participants

  • resistance is much less likely when the training is based on real life examples

  • participants are more willing to risk changing their behavior when they see practical applications of the concepts

  • the argument "that's a good theory, but you don't know my situation" simply goes away--since custom training is based on live situations that participants can identify with

  • the facilitator has improved credibility since he/she can use the language and terminology that participants use on the job

Custom training, based on real-world examples and participant-identified issues is slightly more expensive since it involves more front-end preparation. However, it is our firm conviction (and practical experience) that this investment pays for itself many times over in improved results and impact on key company metrics.

Why should we use an outside facilitator?

Over the past 30 years, our consultants have facilitated the strategic planning process for numerous groups in private business, government, and not-for-profit organizations. Boards and Management teams have emerged from this process with a clear direction, a strategy, and actionable goals and measures. They also emerged with a better understanding of  the challenges ahead and the requirements to meet those challenges successfully, and with a renewed commitment to work together to achieve important goals.

These results have been achieved through a process of thinking through the issues together and open dialogue that explores varying and often conflicting points of view and interests. Our experienced facilitators add value to the process not only by helping design a framework for strategic planning, but also by skillfully guiding the dialogue to ensure openness, creative thinking, and positive issue resolution.

Does AHA work internationally?

We certainly do! And we love it!

AlexanderHancock Associates has provided custom training and consulting for clients throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico, Ireland, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Poland. Our training for clients consistently reflects the global issues they are facing. Our trainers are sensitive to issues that cross cultural boundaries. We frequently train groups comprised of participants from all over the U.S. and Europe.

Generally, participants in our training are fluent enough in English that we can ensure their understanding. However, in Mexico, we conducted training using simultaneous translators. In a recent European project, our supervisory skills training was translated into Czech and Polish, and we trained bilingual Czech and Polish trainers to deliver these programs successfully on their own.

How is invoicing handled?

We typically invoice at the end of the job, or, in the case of ongoing work, we invoice as work is accomplished. Work is billed based on a negotiated rate plus expenses billed at no markup.

Does AHA provide e-learning options?

Yes we do. However, much of our training is skill building around communication related issues--how to have those difficult conversations that are critical to the success of the business. These simulations are videotaped for analysis and feedback.  This is impossible to do using typical e-learning options. We are always seeking new ways to use technology to improve training outcomes and reduce costs.

Does AHA work with government and non-profits?

Yes, we do a lot of work with local government, federal agencies, and community agenciesl We discount our pricing to these organizations  based on a commitment we have made to building community. Both partners are founding members of Searchnet, a non-profit network of professionals committed to helping communities build consensus through future search conferences. We have also done pro bono work for local governments and agencies for the same reason.
